How To Fund Those Once In A Lifetime Travel Adventures

You can spend many hours reading about all of the earth’s enchanting travel destinations. You can spend even longer in your home, gazing at a poster of the world, putting pins in those places you really, really want to visit. But at some point or another, you’re going to have to stop dreaming and start moving. The places are just sitting there, waiting for you to visit them, so what’s the delay? For most people, it’s a matter of money. Some destinations are expensive, and for that reason, they seem out of reach to many. Let’s change that.

Make a Commitment

Travelling is easier than you think, but it’ll come at the expense of other things. To afford to travel, you have to make a commitment: it has to be a priority. Instead of, say, buying a house or living an affluent lifestyle, you make travelling your end objective. Everything becomes much simpler when you change your thinking from “I want to travel” to “I AM going to travel.” You’ll need that commitment on your path to building up the travel fund pot.

Control Your Spending

Most people live lives of luxury, and they don’t even realise they’re doing it. Things like going out to dinner, having a nice car and picturesque home, and treating yourself to the latest gadgets and fashions? They would have been unthinkable to people who were living a hundred years ago and before. To save the cash you need, you’ll probably have to give up the luxuries that we all take for granted. But we assure you, you won’t mind the year of simple, cheap meals when you’re making your travel dreams come true.

Lump Sums of Money

It’s important to cut back on your spending because every little helps when it comes to travel. But saving $50 here and there won’t make your travel adventure come round anytime soon. To get the ball rolling, you’ll need to commit a sizable amount of money to the pot. If you have savings, that can provide your initial cash injection. If you don’t, look at selling your vehicle or using a personal loan comparison website; you’ll be able to raise enough money to turn your “dream” into reality, and quickly, too. You can use your savings pot for your day-to-day travel expenses, while your big pots of cash will provide the expensive flights and accommodations.

Make Your Travel Work For You

The best way to fund your exciting travel adventures is to…spend less money. There are a million and one ways you can cut corners when travelling, from travelling on the cheapest forms of transportation, making your meals, and not being too concerned about how and where you sleep (tenting is very cheap, for example). But you don’t have to be so frugal. You can do whatever you want; it only becomes ineffective when you’re spending money on doing the things that you think you should be doing. If you’re not an art person, then paying $30 to go to a new art show, for example, would not make sense. Figure out what you want to do, create a budget, and trim the rest. Happy travels!

  1. I also recommend using travel points credit cards IF you have the discipline to pay them off every cycle. I usually fly Southwest and American Airlines with points I earned by paying my bills by credit card (insurance, groceries, utilities…make them pay back)! Happy trails.

  2. Great ideas! We have to save for travel, but it’s a pleasure to do so. Even when we go places, we watch what we spend on lodging, food, and transportation. It can be done!

  3. Interesting post, all sensible suggestions to help people travel. I think the most important one is to commit 100% to it and do it properly. We’ve been going for over 2 years and plan everything early and in detail and don’t spend a great deal.
